Summary Weeks 40 & 41: Operation Get Fit No Excuses

Welcome back! This week’s post is a combination of weeks 40 and 41 of my continuing effort to get and live a healthier lifestyle.

I mentioned in the last post that I had reached a weight I’m happy with and would be switching up my exercise routine to more of a maintenance program instead of continuing on with the harsh and longer workouts I’ve been doing the past few months. So far, it’s worked out well.

I continue to workout 6 days a week when I’m able, but now I’m concentrating on trying to tone and strengthen my muscles. After losing 25.8 kg (57 lbs), I have a lot of loose and stretched skin from being overweight my whole life. Now that I’ve lost so much weight, it’s extremely apparent. Fortunately, it’s not so bad that I need surgery to make myself comfortable.

But, like anyone that’s over 40, my skin isn’t as elastic as it may have been 20 years ago. I have found several different types of exercises and movements that are helping me improve muscle tone and skin tightening, but I know that I will never be rid of the loose skin totally. I’m ok with that because I’m feeling great and am happy in my own skin now, so to speak.

Now, I have been experiencing dizzy spells over the past few months almost every time I go from a sitting to standing position. I stand up and my vision goes almost completely dark. I get a sinking feeling in my stomach and my head experiences a form of mega-vertigo. These episodes last about 10 to 15 seconds. It mainly happens when I get up to fast, but not every time. I’ve been paying closer attention to my vitamin and mineral intake per day to see if I can change or supplement my diet to counteract the dizzy spells. So far, I can’t pinpoint anything inparticular that is the obvious culprit.

I take daily supplements consisting of a multivitamin, Omega 3 fish oil, turmeric with bioprene, Vitamin D3, and Blueberry for vision. The rest of my nutrition comes from vegetarian foods and my daily intake is met. So, it’s still a mystery. On one hand, I‘m thinking that it has to do with my body’s blood sugar and blood pressure adjusting to so much weight loss. But then, on the other hand, I’ve lost the weight in a steady progression naturally through diet and exercise over 9 1/2 months. Wouldn’t my body automatically adjust with the changes along the way? I don’t know.

So, if nothing improves or changes in the next month, I will have to seek medical help to try and reslove this issue. Other than that, my health has greatly improved.

Padrone Marco is making great strides in his own weightloss and health journey. Since March, he’s lost 16.5 kg (36.3 lbs). He went from an Italian men’s size 60 to a 50 in pants. He said that he’s feeling much better now also. He tried a vegetarian diet, but wasn’t able to enjoy the food, so we are trying a modified diet for him. He’s eating chicken, turkey, fresh veggies and fruit, whole grain bread and pasta, and nothing from a can, box, or tube. These parameters help combat his problems with high uric acid, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar. We found a salt substitute also that we’re trying in his food now. I’ll let you know next week how that’s worked out.

Thank you so much for your continued support and encouragement. It means a lot to us both.
